Dr Emmanuel Setlhako

Dr Emmanuel Setlhako is an experienced medical practitioner who has worked in both Australia and Botswana across a broad range of hospital and community healthcare settings. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University after undertaking pre-medical studies at the University of Botswana.

Dr Setlhako’s clinical experience spans general medicine, emergency medicine, paediatrics, rehabilitation medicine, orthopaedics, surgery, gastroenterology, obstetrics and women’s health. He has cared for patients in metropolitan, regional and resource-limited settings, giving him a strong appreciation of how cultural background, access to healthcare and individual circumstances can influence a person’s health and treatment.

He values a holistic and collaborative approach to care. His experience in rehabilitation and older-person care has reinforced the importance of considering patients’ medical, functional and social needs, while working closely with families, nursing staff and allied health professionals.

Before returning to Australia, Dr Setlhako worked as a Senior Medical Officer in Botswana, where his responsibilities included supervising junior doctors and coordinating clinical services. He has also contributed to medical education through bedside teaching, clinical presentations and the supervision of medical students and junior medical officers.

Dr Setlhako is committed to respectful, evidence-based and culturally responsive healthcare. He believes in listening carefully to patients, involving them in decisions about their care and maintaining his knowledge through continuing professional development.
