"Clinical excellence, delivered with compassion, without judgement."
— Dr Balaji Pillalamarry
Dr Balaji’s vision is to create more than a medical practice. He aims to provide a safe, inclusive, and compassionate environment where every patient feels genuinely welcomed, respected, and cared for.
Central to this vision is creating a space where patients feel safe to express their concerns, emotions, fears, and vulnerabilities without fear of criticism, embarrassment, discrimination, or judgement.
Dr Balaji believes that patients should be able to speak honestly about their health and life circumstances, confident that they will be met with empathy, sensitivity, professionalism, and respect.
Every patient should receive personalised and unbiased medical care, regardless of their:
Dr Balaji believes that meaningful healthcare is built on trust. When patients feel safe, heard, and understood, they are better able to discuss their concerns openly and participate actively in decisions about their health.
This philosophy extends beyond Dr Balaji’s individual consultations. His goal is to build and support a team that shares these values, and consistently provides every patient with the same standard of respectful, unbiased care.
Continuing education and continuous improvement form the backbone of GP@Northbourne. Dr Balaji believes that excellent healthcare requires humility, reflection, teamwork, ongoing professional development, and a willingness to continually improve. He and the GP@Northbourne team strive to combine contemporary, evidence-based medicine with genuine human connection, ensuring that clinical excellence is always delivered with compassion.
Our purpose: To create a practice where every person feels safe to be themselves, comfortable expressing their vulnerabilities, and confident that they will receive compassionate, unbiased, and evidence-based medical care without judgement.
For Dr Balaji, excellence in healthcare is measured not only by clinical outcomes, but also by the trust earned, the relationships built, and the experience of every person who enters GP@Northbourne.
More than five years of dedicated paediatric training and clinical experience, including work at The Canberra Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. Dr Balaji supports infants, children, adolescents and their families, with a focus on preventive care and healthy development.
Comprehensive skin examinations and assessment of suspicious lesions, including preventive skin checks, skin biopsies, diagnosis and management of skin cancers, and ongoing skin surveillance.
A broad range of office-based procedures including skin cancer excisions, removal of benign lesions, skin biopsies and wound repair, performed with a focus on patient comfort and safe clinical outcomes.
Compassionate, ongoing support for patients experiencing anxiety, depression and stress, including GP Mental Health Treatment Plans and collaborative care with psychologists and psychiatrists.
Care across all stages of life, including men's and women's health, chronic disease management, immunisation, care plans, lifestyle medicine and travel medicine.
Dr Balaji is passionate about maintaining high professional and clinical standards, both within his own practice and across the broader general practice profession. He believes that excellence in healthcare requires ongoing education, professional reflection, strong clinical governance, and a willingness to continually evaluate and improve the care delivered to patients.
As an Accredited GP Supervisor, Dr Balaji mentors and supports General Practice Registrars during their specialist training. Through teaching, supervision and professional guidance, he contributes to the development of the next generation of Australian General Practitioners.
Dr Balaji also contributes, on an occasional basis, as an examiner for General Practice Registrar assessments. This role allows him to help support the maintenance of the professional and clinical standards expected of doctors progressing towards independent general practice.
Dr Balaji occasionally visits other medical practices in his role as a Clinical Surveyor for general practice accreditation. Through these assessments, he contributes to:
These responsibilities reflect Dr Balaji’s commitment to improving the quality of general practice beyond his own consulting room. As Practice Principal, he also encourages a culture of professionalism, teamwork, lifelong learning, accountability and continuous improvement throughout GP@Northbourne.
Outside medicine, Dr Balaji enjoys spending time with his wife and children and values a healthy balance between his professional responsibilities and family life. He has a genuine passion for the outdoors — hiking, bushwalking, water sports and travelling to experience different cultures.
Having lived and worked in four countries, he has developed a deep appreciation for different cultures, traditions and perspectives, which continues to shape his inclusive approach to patient care. He also maintains a regular meditation practice, which he finds supports focus, patience and calm — qualities that carry into how he shows up for patients in consultations.
Dr Balaji believes a doctor’s responsibilities extend beyond the practice walls. He has taken part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to help raise funds and awareness for people experiencing homelessness — reflecting his belief that health is closely connected to housing, security and social support. He also supports organisations involved in healthcare, medical education, research and humanitarian assistance, including the RACGP Foundation and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
